Getting Started With Spanish: Beginning Spanish For Homeschoolers And Self-Taught Students of Any Age

Getting Started With Spanish

Getting Started with Spanish: Beginning Spanish for Homeschoolers and Self-Taught Students of Any Age is a forthcoming book (look for it in early 2009) that teaches beginning Spanish gradually yet systematically. This unique method was designed specifically to help homeschooled and self-taught students overcome the obstacles they face when studying Spanish at home. In each lesson, after learning something new, you can immediately apply what you've learned by translating the fun practice sentences. Download the free MP3 files that accompany the book, and listen to a native speaker (co-author Antonio Orta) pronounce all the exercises. As you practice speaking and understanding spoken Spanish, refer to the answer key in the back if you get stuck. Everything you need is here in one book, so what's stopping you from Getting Started with Spanish?

No More Testers Needed

We now have plenty of testers, and no more are needed at this time.

I Need a Nap

Tuesday June 24, 2008

Whew. Antonio and I worked like crazy on the book every day for about the past week. We now have the lessons for the entire book in place, and most of them are written. They just need some rewriting and editing. However, I will have to go back and rewrite many of the exercises because of some changes we have made earlier in the book.

Making Progress

Sunday May 11, 2008

Well, we have gotten most of the book mapped out, that is, the basic material we want to cover and the order of the lessons. This book will follow the same one-thing-at-a-time formula that you saw in Getting Started with Latin, the only difference being that in this book we will ocassionally be throwing in an extra word in some lessons when appropriate.

The book will have approximately 155 lessons, the first 20 or so of which we have finished. Remaining tasks include finalizing the order of the lessons, and writing a rough draft of the actual lessons once we have finalized the order. I think we can be done with this entire project by Christmas.

A Book is Born

Saturday March 22, 2008

After a lot of planning and dreaming, my friend Antonio Orta and I have decided to write a beginning Spanish book. This book will be a counterpart to my popular introduction to Latin, which is called Getting Started with Latin. The new book, as you have probably noticed by now, will be called Getting Started with Spanish: Beginning Spanish for Homeschooled and Self-Taught Students of Any Age. It will be very similar to Getting Started with Latin, and will have both the prounciation recordings and lesson-by-lesson commentary recordings. So I think that this beginning Spanish method will be just as big a success as the Latin book has proven to be.

I will periodically update this blog to keep folks informed of the progress of the book.
